Democrats Diane Mitsch Bush and Karl Hanlon will appear on the June primary election ballot in a race for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.
Mitsch Bush, a state legislator from Steamboat Springs, will face off against Hanlon, a Glenwood Springs city attorney, on June 26.
Democrats said Mitsch Bush garnered 194 votes, or about 57 percent of the 343 delegates’ votes. Hanlon, Mitsch Bush’s challenger, received 142 total votes, or about 41.4 percent.
Another Democrat, Durango resident Root Routledge, received 2 percent of the total votes, falling short of the 30 percent that is required to advance to the primary ballot.
Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes La Plata County, is predominately rural and includes 29 counties over 54,000 square miles.
The winner of the Democrats’ 3rd Congressional District primary will face Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, in November’s general election.
In 2016, Tipton won re-election by about 15 percentage points in a race against former state Sen. Gail Schwartz.
