Up-and-coming country rocker David Luning and his band will perform at the Dolores River Brewery on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The singer-songwriter from Forestville, California plays Americana, folk, country, and rock. He performs on guitar, piano and harmonica.

Luning’s debut album “Just Drop on By” garnered film and TV placements, and his song “Whiskey Bottle” is featured in NBC’s series “Grimm.”

He also signed a record contract with HWY 61 Music with a February 2017 release date.

“I’ve been working on the record and am stoked how it is turning out,” he told The Journal. “I’ve had the awesome opportunity to work with the legendary producer Karl Derfler on this record.”

While studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Luning was inspired by Americana great John Prine.

“It was like a bolt of lightning that struck my soul,” Luning said. “It was simple and real, like a family that I wanted to be a part of.”

Luning made his TV debut on American Idol in 2014, singing his original song “In Hell I Am.” The performance placed him in the top 100 and earned praise from country star Keith Urban, who remarked, “You’re a good singer-songwriter, storytelling guy.”

A prolific songwriter, Luning has been honing his musical skills performing solo or with the David Luning Band, which features Dave Sampson (guitar), Ben Dubin (bass), and Zak Garn (drums).

What can Dolores expect Saturday night?

“Good times,” says Luning. “Dance songs, rock & roll, folksy storytelling tunes.”

Luning also co-writes and performs music with vocal virtuoso, Brodie Jenkins, in the folk duo Ghost and Gale whose music is comprised of haunting cinematic folk harmonies.
