DAR asks for help in placing vets’ flags

For the past seven years, the members of the Sleeping Ute Mountain Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution have marked the graves of veterans in the rural cemeteries in Montezuma County before to Memorial Day Weekend.

The 4-by-6-inch flags may remain at the gravesite after Memorial Day.

Each year, about 16 members of the DAR will be honoring the gravesites of these veterans by placing approximately 350 flags in 18 rural cemeteries. They will make every effort to place the American flag on the requested grave. Plans are to place the flags in the different cemeteries the week of May 23. Because of the number of flags requested plus the location of the cemeteries, we have listed the dates we plan to place the flags in the various cemeteries.
