Crow Canyon Connection at the Colorado Welcome Center will host a grand opening for its shop at 928 E. Main St. in Cortez on April 6.

The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, in operation for 35 years, will provide a space at the Welcome Center for books, Native American jewelry and a variety of Cortez and Colorado souvenirs, along with cold beverages and snacks.

In addition, Crow Canyon Connection will offer a space for educational events, meetings and exhibits highlighting the region’s cultural and archaeological resources. Crow Canyon staff will be on hand during business hours to answer questions about Crow Canyon and offer visitors the opportunity to sign up for an array of educational and travel programming.

“We are excited to be in this location on Main Street in Cortez to increase awareness for Crow Canyon, as well as support the Cortez community’s efforts to provide visitors to our area with additional activities to learn about the full scope of the rich cultural history of the area,” Deb Miller, director of Campus Services at Crow Canyon, said in a news release.

The Colorado Welcome Center offers internet access, maps and information about local and regional attractions, restrooms and RV parking. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Cortez with funding provided by the Colorado Tourism Office.

The Crow Canyon Connection and the Colorado Welcome Center will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the rest of the year. The facility is closed on major holidays.
