The deadline for Mancos students to apply for an arts-focused scholarship is fast-approaching, with applications due by April 15.
The Create 81328 Scholarship fund was established by the Mancos Creative District and aims to support college-bound, arts-focused students.
“When our son was a senior in high school and looking to study art in college, he didn’t find scholarships for art,” said Maggie Goodell, the scholarship’s founder and executive director of the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. “Mancos, Colorado, has a strong and vibrant creative community. We are continuing this legacy by providing financial support to college-bound students in the 81328 ZIP code who have a passion for the arts.”
The scholarship has initially been funded by anonymous donors and the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce, according to Anne Beach, executive director of the Mancos Creative District.
This year’s goal is to award one student with a $1,000 scholarship, but the district hopes to support at least one other student too, Beach said.
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants should be an arts-focused student in the 81328 ZIP code pursuing post-secondary education in college, university, or vocational technical school.
The application includes an artist’s statement, letter of recommendation, official transcripts, and work samples.
