Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed are considered factors in a crash on Wolf Creek Pass earlier this week that killed a 24-year-old man, according to Colorado State Patrol.
CSP said in a news release that around 2:45 p.m. Sunday a 2002 Subaru Outback was headed east toward South Fork when the vehicle skidded into the westbound lane after entering a right hand curve into the snow shed near mile post 168.5.
The Subaru collided head-on into an oncoming 2017 Ford F-150. Both vehicles came to a rest on their wheels in the westbound lane. The crash occurred just east of Wolf Creek Ski Area on U.S. Highway 160.
The driver of the Subaru, Gena Franqui, 22, of Westminster and the front-seat passenger, Bethani Larson, 21, of Thornton were transported to Rio Grande Hospital with serious injuries.
The rear-seat passenger, Antonino Ortiz, 24, of Northglenn suffered fatal injuries.
The driver of the Ford and a juvenile passenger, both of Denver, were transported to Rio Grande Hospital with serious injuries.
Attempts to check the conditions of those injured Tuesday were unsuccessful.
CSP Capt. Adrian Driscoll said Tuesday morning he did not have any additional updates about the crash.
A CSP spokesman in Denver said the crash was under investigation and no charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
