Cortez track athletes strike gold in Farmington

For several Montezuma-Cortez High School track athletes, the Piedra Vista Invite in Farmington on March 11.

Leading the way for the Panthers boys’ team was senior Josh Ramos, who raced to convincing victories in the 400-meter dash (52.33) and the 800-meter dash (2:07.47). Also finishing first in an individual event was Austin Wagner, who finished first in the triple jump (41 feet, 4¾ inches).

Other members of the Panthers boys’ team who finished in the top five of individual events included Skylar Yarbrough, who finished third in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches), Coby Baer, who placed third in the long jump (19 feet, 11 ½ inches), and Kody Walton, who raced to a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (55.65).

On the girls’ side, M-CHS was led by Morgan Short, who finished first in the 200-meter dash (28.08), second in the 400-meter dash (1:04.53), and fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches).

Kaeleen Boggs also cracked the top five on the girls’ side, finishing fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.13).

Next up for the M-CHS track teams will be the Chandler Rotary Invitational, which will take place in Chandler, Arizona, on March 24.
