Thursday, Dec. 11

2:31 p.m. Officers responded to the area of Big R after a report of a suspicious return at Walmart. When officers arrived on scene, a suspect was spotted jogging through a field with another male chasing him. The man was eventually arrested and given some water because he was out of breath. The suspect was accused of making a “suspicious return”. The man, according to surveillance footage had selected dog food in the store and taken it to the service desk in exchange for cash. When the man was confronted he took off on a bike and then wrecked his bike and then took off on foot. While being transported the police car became high centered and another officer had to take the suspect to jail.

Friday, Dec. 12

5:38 p.m. Officers responded to the southeast corner of City Market for a report of three people smoking meth out of a glass pipe. A man with a Santa-type hat allegedly had a glass pipe and a baggie. When the man with the Santa-type hat was searched, a glass pipe was found and two metal marijuana pipes, in addition to what was believed to be methamphetamine in a mint tin. The man in the Santa-type hat was arrested and issued a felony hold slip for possession of a schedule II substance and violation of bond conditions.

Saturday, Dec. 13

1:08 p.m. A local car dealer reported that sometime the night before, someone had stolen a wheel and tire off of a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedan. The reporting party said she was showing customers cars when she noticed the car jacked up with the wheel and tire missing. The suspect left his jack under the vehicle. There are no suspects at the time and the wheel is estimated to cost about $400 to replace.

3:13 p.m. Officer responded to the 600 block of E. Main Street for a report of an assault. A woman reported that her husband had hit her after she told him he was too drunk to drive. The man was located and arrested.

Sunday, Dec. 14

5:30 a.m. An officer responded to a motel in the 300 block of W. Main Street for a report of a fight. When officers responded they were told to “Go away.” and “Is this Ferguson?” The officer informed the occupants of the room that he had to make sure everyone inside the room was OK. The officer then heard people running around in the room and barricading the door. Once the officer entered the room, with the help of the motel manager, the officer observed multiple clear sandwich bags, multiple cell phones and a scale, indicating possible distribution of drugs. Two males were arrested and two large mason jars were located containing marijuana. During the transport one of the males yelled “This is police brutality” and “the natives are going to turn this place into Ferguson!” Because both males refused portable breath tests, they were transported to the Southwest Memorial Hospital. While inside the emergency room, one of the males began yelling that an officer hit him and then he fell onto the floor and began shouting that he was being hurt by an officer. Another officer had filmed the whole incident with his department issued lapel camera. They were taken to jail and issued summons for unlawful distribution of marijuana.

Monday, Dec. 15

11:01 a.m. While patrolling near the area of Centennial Park, an officer observed a Native American male standing in the middle of the playground equipment and urinating on the equipment. There were no children playing at the playground, but other people were in the area. The officer explained to the man that he needed to find a better spot to urinate. The man was issued a summons for disturbing the peace. He apologized several times.

11:12 p.m. An officer observed a man run a stop sign, when he was pulled over, the officer could smell the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. When the man was asked how much he had smoked, he stated he had smoked two bowls. The man was only 20 years old and was told it was illegal for him to possess marijuana. He was issued a summons for failure to stop at a stop sign, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of marijuana.
