3:13 a.m. A man was arrested for domestic violence and third-degree assault after a child called dispatch and advised that her step dad was hitting her mom. Four children were in the home at the time.
3:12 p.m. Officers responded to the 600 block of North Elm Street for a report of a break-in. A resident informed police that the south window of his trailer was broken and that his PlayStation was missing, in addition to several games. There are no leads at this time of the report.
Tuesday, Dec. 23
9:20 p.m. A man wearing a black cowboy hat and cowboy boots and driving an older model Chevrolet pickup was issued a criminal mischief summons after witnesses identified him as the one who stabbed the tire of another vehicle in the parking lot of City Market. The man initially denied stabbing the tire and later admitted to it after he was told there were three witnesses and possible security footage, according to the report. When asked why he did it, the man said that his friends were “screwing” with him. The man in the cowboy hat was advised to stay away from his friends after being issued the summons.
Wednesday, Dec. 24
3:38 p.m. Officers responded to the 700 block of East 2nd Street after a woman reported that a man entered her home without permission. The woman told officers than a man knocked on her door and gave her information about the Bridge Shelter, she thought the man wanted money for the shelter so she went back into her house to get some money. When she returned from her bedroom, the man had entered her home and asked if he could look around. The 81-year-old woman repeatedly asked the man to leave and called the police. The man left and was later arrested because he had an active warrant. He told officers that he was supposed to meet a man at the woman’s house. He smelled of alcohol. He was issued a summons for first-degree criminal trespass.
Thursday, Dec. 25
1:12 a.m. Officers were alerted to a report of a verbal disturbance between a male and a female. While en route, it was reported that the male had left in a vehicle. A vehicle matching the description was observed running a red light at Harrison and Main streets. A check through dispatch showed the man had an active warrant for his arrest. Inside the male’s vehicle an officer observed several spoons in the pocket of the door with burnt residue, the man with the warrant said the residue was Tylenol.
Friday, Dec. 26
9:18 a.m. The Cortez Police Department was initially called because a man was making people feel uncomfortable at the Cortez Library for the last couple of days. When officers ran the man’s name, it was determined he had a statewide extradition warrant out of Garfield County. The man was asked to step outside the library and gather his items. He was arrested outside the library without incident and left in the care of jail staff.
