Wednesday, Jan. 7
2:39 p.m. An officer responded to Centennial Park in reference to an intoxicated Native American man passed out in the snow. The officer saw an open bottle of vodka laying underneath the man. When the officer woke the man up, he looked at the officer and groaned. Medics responded to the park and transported him to Southwest Memorial Hospital, where he was issued a summons for possession of alcohol in the park.
Thursday, Jan. 8
10:07 p.m. Officers responded to an inn at the 600 block of South Broadway for the report of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told by a man that the woman staying with him was not letting him sleep. She allegedly threw an empty beer can at the man’s back and was using a knife to stab the bed near his head, threatening to cut his hair. The woman was arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon.
Friday, Jan. 9
3:25 p.m. Officers responded to a motorcycle accident at the intersection of W. Main Street and Maple Street. The man driving the motorcycle complained of shoulder pain. The rider of the dirt bike said he didn’t have a valid driver’s license and said his was the only vehicle involved in the accident. He told officers he “dumped the bike” because he hit some gravel. When officers asked him why he was riding a bike that was not street-legal, he said he was just “being dumb.” The man was transported to the hospital and issued a summons for operating a unregistered vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
10:48 p.m. Officers were told that two males wearing ball caps were attempting to re-enter a bar in the 40 block of East Main Street after being told they were not allowed to because of their high level of intoxication. When the officer arrived at the bar, he identified one of the males as having a criminal protection order prohibiting him from consuming alcohol. He was arrested and after being cleared by hospital staff, was taken to jail.
Saturday, Jan. 10
2:54 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the area of North Park Street and Aspen Drive for a reference to two people smoking methamphetamine inside a vehicle. The officer confirmed that the woman inside the vehicle had an active warrant, she was arrested. Officers were given permission to search the vehicle and they located a small amount of marijuana.
Sunday, Jan. 11
5:05 p.m. Two men in Centennial Park flagged down an officer, and one told the officer that he had just been beaten up by “that little guy” near the bench on the north side of the playground. After describing the man, another officer found him outside of a bar and found fresh abrasions on his knuckles. The man said he had been watching the football game the whole time, but a quick check with a bartender proved that statement untrue and the man was arrested for third-degree assault.
Tuesday, Jan. 13
1:20 p.m. While covering the Dolores area for the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, an officer was dispatched to the 32000 block of Road M.75 for a dog killing sheep. The deputy observed two dead sheep and others that were injured. The owner of the sheep told officers that he shot the dog and that the dog had killed his sheep before.
Wednesday, Jan. 14
5:24 a.m. Officers were called to the 700 block of E. Second Street for a disturbance. A woman at the home told officers she hit a man with a coffee mug while he sat on the toilet because they were arguing about cigarettes and money. The woman was arrested for third-degree assault, domestic violence and violation of a protection order.
