Cortez juvenile under investigation after crash

Single-vehicle crash on July Fourth causes injury

A single-vehicle crash on County Road 25 on July 4 is still under investigation, Colorado State Patrol officials said.

The crash occurred about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, said Capt. Adrian Driscoll, of Colorado State Patrol Troop 5. A car with three juvenile occupants from Cortez reportedly crashed into a pole in the 25000 block of Road 25, near County Road M. The car’s driver is under investigation for vehicular assault, Driscoll said.

A 17-year-old passenger was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after the crash, Driscoll said, and the other two occupants had minor injuries. He said troopers believe alcohol was involved.

Driscoll would not release the names of the car’s driver or passengers, who were all under 18. He also would not release additional details about the crash, saying the investigation was still open.
