The Journal

The Cortez Cultural Center was approved Sept. 26 as an Enterprise Zone contribution project by the State Economic Development Commission.

The designation allows donors of $150 or more to the organization to claim a 25% state tax credit and a 12.5% state tax credit on in-kind donations. This credit is in addition to the federal tax deduction for contributing to any 501(c)(3).

The Cortez Cultural Center was approved as a tourism and cultural attraction and EZ contributions will be used to fund the year-round programs, exhibits, tours and classes on the regional and indigenous cultures of Southwest Colorado. The Center also owns Hawkins Preserve, a 122-acre natural and archaeological preserve with outdoor recreation amenities.
