Cortez Cultural Center announces September events, including an art exhibition by Benton Yazzie.

Cortez Cultural Center will hold following events in September:

Benton Yazzie exhibition: A solo exhibition of acrylic and mixed-media paintings by Navajo painter and illustrator Benton Yazzie will run from Sept. 3 through October. Yazzie is a self-taught artist based in the Four Corners. His work often explores tensions between the traditional ways of this people, the Diné, and the fast-paced, technological features of contemporary life.

An artist reception with live music will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Cocktail Culture: The informal monthly happy hour, will take place at 5 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, beginning Thursday, Sept. 5.Take a break from the usual happy hour while supporting the Cultural Center. Sip a featured cocktail and mingle. A $15 suggested donation includes appetizers and nonalcoholic beverages.

Critical Conversations series: The free discussion series will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. every third Wednesday at the Cultural Center. Suicide prevention will be the topic on Sept. 18.Diverse ideas and opinions are welcome; civility is required. A moderator and refreshments will be provided.
