Cortez asks residents to make trash containers accessible

A Cortez city dumpster.

The Cortez Public Works Department is asking residents to make trash containers accessible this week.

With the recent storms, it has been noticed that many of the city’s trash containers – dumpsters and polycarts – are surrounded by ice and snow. This makes it difficult and dangerous for the refuse crew to reposition the containers close enough to the trash truck so they can be emptied.

If a trash container cannot easily be moved, the refuse crew will be unable to empty that container. They will not return to empty the container until the next scheduled pickup day.

“Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated,” Dona Thompson, of the Public Works Department, said.

For questions, contact the Public Works Department at the City Service Center at 970-565-7320.
