Cortez plans to show the Earth and parks a little love on Earth Day through an initiative created by the city Parks and Recreation Department.

The Earth Day Park Cleanup Day is set to take place on Tuesday, April 22, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m.

“This event invites community members and organizations to join us in enhancing the beauty of our local parks and promoting environmental stewardship,” the city said. “As custodians of our natural spaces, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our parks remain safe and accessible for everyone. This Earth Day, let’s come together to show our appreciation for these essential areas that contribute to our community's health and well-being. Parks not only provide recreational opportunities but also foster a connection to nature that is invaluable for all ages.”

Residents may choose to participate as Centennial Park, Veterans Park, Parque de Vida, Denny Lake Park, Montezuma Park, Rotary Park, Market Street Pocket Park, Third Street Pocket Park and Carpenter Natural Area.

Those who wish to participate will be provided with garbage bags and gloves. They may be picked up before or on Earth Day at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 Roger Smith Ave.

All are welcome and encouraged to participate, whether as an individual family, young or old.

“Let’s celebrate our planet with action and dedication,” the city said. “We look forward to seeing you on April 22 as we work hand in hand to preserve our beautiful outdoor spaces for future generations.”
