Coming to Cortez: Comedian Rusty Rutherford and Comedy Showcase Durango

Rusty Rutherford, named 2016 Best Comedian in Albuquerque, performs his high-energy and odd but relevant comedy on Friday, Nov. 17 in Cortez.

Rutherford’s comedic journey has taken him to venues in America, Canada, and even “Last Comic Standing,” according to a news release from the Sunflower Theatre. He has been a member of Blackout Theatre Company and Eat, Drink and be Larry sketch comedy troupe and has trained with Tricklock Theatre in Albuquerque and The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago. Whatever you expect, throw it out the window. His comedy is a hilariously structured insanity, the theater said.

Comedy Showcase Durango features Wes Stein, Zach Abeyta and Matt McDermott.

Stein has recently appeared at the North Texas Comedy Fest and the Four Corners Comedy Festival. He’s opened for national acts such as Josh Blue and hosts a monthly comedy showcase in Durango.

Abeyta is a comic and breakdancer from Albuquerque whose comedy style is as expressive as his dance moves, the theater said. He’s won multiple comedy contests and has headlined across the Southwest.

McDermott is a regular in the Durango comedy scene who has opened for national acts such as Sean Patton. He also hosts the Organized Chaos podcast.
