New culvert installed; flooding caused three-week closure

Colorado Highway 184 reopened Thursday after being closed by flooding since March 14.

A culvert became overwhelmed by snowmelt and days of rain, which backed up water for several acres.

Colorado Department of Transportation drained the area, installed a new culvert and repaired the road.

The flooding and closure occurred just east of the junction with U.S. Highway 491.

Colorado 184 was closed to commercial truck traffic from its juncture with Colorado 145 to U.S. 491, but it is now open to all traffic.

Local traffic was able to take detours around the previous closure on County Roads 22 and U.
