For those of you who drive between Dolores and Cortez, get ready for construction to last awhile longer.
The Colorado Highway 145 resurfacing project will likely last another month, according to Nancy Shanks, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The project, which involves resurfacing the highway between Dolores and Cortez, was supposed to wrap up this month, but Shanks said crews now say the project will likely last until mid-September.
Delays are expected to last more no more than 15 minutes.
However, there was a few delays this week that lasted longer than that, Shanks said.
"The crews are making every effort to keep delays at 15 minutes or less," she said.
On Monday night, delays were fairly significant and Shanks said crews are working on improving that, mostly by shortening the work zone, especially during peak commuter times.
Shanks added that the construction crews will work closely with the schools once school starts to ensure minimal delays.
Contractor Skanska Civil USA West Rocky Mountain District, Inc. is working on the project and has completed the resurfacing within the Cortez city limits portion of the work zone on Highway 145. Crews have begun paving the stretch of road north of Cortez to the Dolores River Bridge. The resurfacing will involve two layers of asphalt, which means there will be two full passes of the paving truck on each lane.
The $5.7 million project, began in late March. The work will accomplish the following: resurface the roadway, providing a leveling course to smooth the surface and correct rough roadway; patch and improve drainage in damaged areas; rehabilitate the bridge deck, including weather-proofing and new bridge rail; correct the curve at CR P; and install ADA ramps at sidewalks on SH 145 in Cortez.
