San Juan College will debut its mascot April 28, but it needs a name first.
The sun image has been a long-standing part of the college brand. Turning it into an official mascot will allow it to be incorporated into the college brand. The mascot naming contest is open through April 8, but only one suggestion is allowed per person.
The person with the winning submission will receive a gift card, San Juan College merchandise, VIP treatment at the Mascot Launch Party and the opportunity to ride or walk with the mascot in the next Farmington parade.
The mascot image has not been revealed, the college provided a description to help with naming ideas.
The mascot is described as having a full head of flames, a swagger when he walks and the ability to set “your education aflame.”
Submissions may be made online through April 8 and must be accompanied by a phone number and email address in order to notify the submitting person if their suggestion is chosen.
Inappropriate suggestions will not be considered. In the event of duplicate entries, a blind drawing will be used to determine which submission will receive priority. All entries will become the property of the college.
Once submissions are collected, the college will narrow suggested names to a group of finalists.
Public voting on the finalists for the mascot’s name will take place April 10 to 21. Voting is open to everyone, but only one vote is allowed per person. The winner will be determined by the number of votes and will be announced during the launch party on April 28.
