City urges applicants for grants

Nonprofits are priority for 2016

The city of Cortez is encouraging eligible community organizations to apply for grant funding through the Community Support Grant Program.

The Cortez City Council annually budgets money from the general fund to support local nonprofits and community organizations that “preserve or enrich the health, education, welfare, and fitness of the community.”

Community support organizations may receive grants to support activities and programs that are accessible to the locals and provide programs for citizen welfare, arts and education within the city of Cortez.

Council funding priorities for 2016 are nonprofits with verification of status from the state of Colorado; organizations that address a unique community need; organizations that serve a broad spectrum of the community; organizations that avoid overlapping services; and established service providers.

Applications may be obtained online at www.cityofcortez.com. Completed applications may be submitted electronically to dmccabe@cityofcortez.com or may be mailed or delivered to city of Cortez, 210 E. Main St., Cortez, CO 81321 by Oct. 2 at 5 p.m.
