The Cigna Group is pulling a Medicare Advantage plan from Montezuma County, disrupting plans for county seniors. Seniors who are utilizing the policy will have additional options now that their current plan has been discontinued, according to information provided by Cortez State Farm’s Katrina Weiss and Karen Sheek.

Those who wish to look into another policy without underwriting may want to consider a Medicare Supplemental policy. Though this plan, Medigap, may have higher premiums, plans like this may end up being less expensive while offering better benefits for users with health conditions.

Medigap policy holders are also able to see any health care provider who accepts Medicare, and pre-authorization is not required to secure treatment or to see doctors and specialist.

“The patient’s health care providers make those decisions,” a letter from Sheek said.

When seniors receive a letter from Cigna announcing that the plan is discontinued, they are encouraged to take the letter to a local insurance provider, where they can review the options they have for a new plan. Other arrangements can be made until 31.

“Cigna policy holders decide to sign up for a Medigap policy rather than purchasing a new Medicare Advantage plan, they will still have the option to change back to Medicare Advantage, with no penalty, if they change their mind,” a letter from Sheek said.
