Child abducted in Colorado rescued unharmed in Nebraska

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – A child who was abducted Tuesday evening after an assault in Colorado was rescued unharmed during a traffic stop in Nebraska, authorities said.

The Nebraska State Patrol said in a news release that it received a report at about 6:15 p.m. that a man had assaulted a woman in Sedgwick County, Colorado, and then drove off in her vehicle with her child still inside. The suspect was believed to be traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 in Nebraska.

Troopers located the vehicle, a Mazda 3, less than an hour later near North Platte, Nebraska, and pulled it over during a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The child was found inside the car and later reunited with family.

The 31-year-old driver, George Williamson, of North Plate was arrested on Colorado warrants for kidnapping and assault and a Nebraska warrant for failure to appear.

It is unclear what, if any, relationship, the suspect had to the child and no further details were immediately released.
