The chief nursing officer of Southwest Health System recently completed a “rigorous six-month program” that’s designed specifically for chief nursing officers who work in rural hospitals.
It’s called the Rural Hospital CNO Program, and the National Rural Health Association puts it on.
The goal of the program is to help “rural hospital CNOs strengthen their leadership skills to help lead their hospital to success,” according to its website.
Lisa Gates, the chief nursing officer who completed that program, said she “was passionate about becoming certified as a rural health CNO … to address the unique needs of my … role while supporting and growing operations of an organization such as Southwest Health System.”
The program was an educational one, complete with comprehensive sessions and tests at the end of each module.
And the curriculum was made up of four major topics: leadership performance, operational performance, financial performance and clinical performance, according to a Southwest Health System news release.
“This is a great example of how Lisa is investing some of her time to get better in her role and to help improve health care delivery in Southwest Colorado,” said hospital CEO Joe Theine in the news release.
“Lisa’s experience is one example, of many, of how Southwest Health System and our employees are investing in the future of our workforce,” Theine said.
