Celebrate Halloween in Cortez

Cortez has a variety of fun and creative Halloween events this year.

Cortez Public Library

Oct. 22: Halloween tie dye workshop, noon to 2 p.m., materials provided. Call (970) 565-8117 to register. Free.

Oct. 29: Halloween Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Begins with story time for kids with a Halloween theme. At 11 a.m., the movie “Hocus Pocus” will be shown. From noon to 2 p.m., there will be an organized Halloween-themed craft workshop.

The library is also decorated in a haunted house theme.

“It looks amazing. We decided to go all out this year,” said library director Isabella Sharpensteen. “I love Halloween, and we wanted to make it extra-special for the kids.”

Piñon Project

Oct. 29: Pumpkin Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Montezuma Park in Cortez. Zombie Run at 9-10 a.m.; Cake Walk 9-11 a.m.; Costume Contest 10-11:45 a.m. (Registration 10-11 a.m., judging at 11 a.m.); Trick or Treat Loop 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Carnival 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., $5 unlimited games.

Masquerade Ball

Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m. at the Montezuma County Annex, 104 N. Chestnut St., Cortez. The event is sponsored by Four Corners Dance.

A DJ will play all styles of dance music. Costumes are optional. Snacks and drinks will be provided, at $10 for members, $15 for non members. For more information text 970-759-0980, or email fourcornersdance@gmail.com.

Halloween night, Oct. 31

Cortez Chamber of Commerce: 4-6 p.m., Business Trick or Treat Safe Stops. Businesses on Main Street will be decorated and handing out candy.

Cortez Fire Protection District Halloween Firehouse from 5-8 p.m. Candy, games and fun at the main station, 31 N. Washington St.

Dolores Library: Oct. 31 Take Me to your Reader event, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be tales of UFOs, treats and thrills.

Mancos Library: Oct. 31, 5-6 p.m., pre-Trick or Treat gathering. There will be chili (meat and vegan options) puzzles, coloring, and special treats. Also check out the mysteries in the Frankenstein Laboratory.
