Competing with nearly all their athletes for the first time this season, the Dove Creek High School track teams produced decently early season results.

Aztec Ice Breaker

Kicking off a busy weekend at the Aztec Ice Breaker on March 21, the Dove Creek girls’ team was solid, finishing sixth in the 13-team field.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs, senior Corissa Guynes placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.47) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.46).

Also performing well for the Bulldogs, senior Madison Young placed second in the shot put (33 feet, eight inches) and fifth in the discus (93 feet, 9 ½ inches).

Mickey Dunn Invitational

One day after competing in Aztec, the Bulldogs travelled to Grand Junction to participate in the Mickey Dunn Invitational.

One of 23 schools competing, the Bulldogs’ girls team finished 15th, courtesy of several strong performances.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs in Grand Junction, Young finished third in the shot put (33 feet, 7 ½ inches) and fifth in the discus (100 feet, three inches).

Also with a solid performance for the Bulldogs, Corissa Guynes placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.24), sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.68) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (52.26).

“The kids did really well,” said Bulldogs head coach Jason Fury. “We had a bunch of tired legs, and the weather wasn’t real great. All of them dropped times from the previous week though.”

Next up for the Bulldogs track teams will be the Frank Woodburn Invitational in Grand Junction on April 5.
