After a slow start to its season, the Dove Creek High School boys baseball team appears to be getting hot at the right time.
The Bulldogs’ most recent victory in a string of solid performance came at home against Pagosa Springs High School on May 25, when the team stormed back from an early 3-0 deficit to a runaway 13-4 win.
Leading Dove Creek’s potent offense were junior Ryan Jarmon, who registered a team-high three hits and scored a game-high three runs, and junior Blaine Johnson, who drove in a team-high three runs.
Senior Kevin Purkat had two RBIs for the Bulldogs, and freshman Gage Buffington, senior Isaiah Knox, and sophomore Kendall Gardner all drove in a single run for Dove Creek.
In addition to showcasing his prowess at the plate, Purkat turned in a solid performance on the mound for his team, with 10 strikeouts and just one walk in seven innings of work.
After falling behind 3-0 in the opening inning, the Bulldogs took the lead when they scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning. A two-run bottom of the fourth inning put Dove Creek ahead 6-4 before the team scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the game open.
Now 5-5 on the season and winners of their last four games, Dove Creek will take a brief break from game action before hitting the road for a doubleheader against Rangely on June 3.
