Bulldog girls blast Telluride

Team moves to 13-2 after 57-19 victory

Five games into the conference schedule, San Juan Basin League opponents are still trying to figure out a way to beat the Dove Creek Bulldogs girls basketball team.

The latest team to attempt the feat, Telluride High School, failed miserably, falling to the Bulldogs 57-19 on Feb. 7.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs were seniors Jessica Guynes and Corrissa Guynes, who, in addition to combining for 12 steals and six assists, scored 15 points each.

“Whenever they are on top of their game, they can change things,” said Bulldogs’ head coach Jim Buffington of the Guynes’ sisters.

Complimenting the Bulldogs’ talented guards was senior Madison Young, who scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Especially impressive in the Bulldogs’ win was the team’s strong defense, which limited Telluride to nine points in the first half and 10 points second half.

“The defense was pretty good as far as not allowing them anything that was real open,” said Buffington.

With their record now at 13-2, the Bulldogs will next match up against Dolores in Dove Creek on Feb. 11.
