Bulldog boys end season at districts

Dove Creek wins two, loses to Norwood
Taylor Hankins leaps to save the ball from going out of bounds while a teammate was able to cut in front of Nathan Hegemeyer and make a basket for Dove Creek in a game earlier this year.

Entering their district tournament with a 4-15 record, the Dove Creek High School boys basketball team was a good bet to go one and done.

Three games later however, the Bulldogs left Olathe with their heads high, confident that a berth in regionals may be possible in the coming years.

Bulldogs blast De Beque

Opening the District 1 Tournament against DeBeque on Feb. 26, the Bulldogs were absolutely spectacular, dominating from start to finish in route to a 69-38 victory.

Key in the Bulldogs win was a solid first half during which Dove Creek built a 37-16 lead.

Although DeBeque would cut the Dove Creek lead to 51-32 entering the fourth quarter, the game was never in doubt as the Bulldogs stormed to victory.

Bulldogs get past North Park

Hoping to continue their tournament run against North Park on Feb. 27, the Bulldogs again played well, winning for the second consecutive game, 49-40.

Bulldogs fall to Norwood

Looking to advance to the district championship with a win over Norwood on Feb. 28, luck finally ran out for the Bulldogs as they lost to their quality opponents, 70-38.

With the loss, the Bulldogs were eliminated from postseason play, finishing the season with a 6-16 overall record.

With key underclassmen Jordan Ernst and Spencer Gatlin returning next season, the future appears bright for a Bulldogs' team that appears to be on the rise.
