With each new award for Cortez swimming standout Brinley Duran, another opportunity comes knocking on her door.
The elementary school swimmer earned one of 10 coveted spots in her age group to represent Colorado as part of the Midwest All-Star Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, in early January. Having earned her stripes on the state-wide circuit, Duran now gets to test her swimming acumen against athletes in her age bracket from across the upper Midwest and Great Plains.
Duran joins nine other girls from Colorado in the 10-and-under classification, serving as the lone representative from the Western Slope. A star on the Durango Swim Club, Duran enjoyed a dominant run at the Western Slope League Championships this summer, part of an impressive stretch of meets where she enjoyed tremendous success.
Thanks to sterling times, she met the rigorous criteria put forth by the selection process, claiming top performances amongst her peers in multiple strokes and distances.
The meet will run over the weekend of Jan. 6-7 in the Iowa state capital, with sixty representatives from Colorado filling out each of the boys and girls in the 10 and under, 11-12 year-old, and 13-14 year-old divisions.
