Country Girls plan to hold reunion

The Country Girls Reunion will be Aug. 23 at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a potluck at noon. All families and friends of The Country Girls are welcome. In the mid 1950s, some young farm and ranch wives from rural communities in Montezuma County decided to form a club. They met monthly and each member would take her turn hosting a meeting in her home. As the young women gathered, they would share domestic tips, recipes, gardening ideas, methods of preserving food, as well as many stories and laughter.

The Country Girls. Members were honored with baby showers as their young families grew. All these offspring now have children and grandchildren of their own. Please feel welcome to enjoy this special occasion with the Country Girls. For more information, call Felicite Forest at 970-247-0299.

Statewide mental health crisis hotline

The Colorado Department of Human Services formally launched a statewide mental health crisis hotline earlier this month. The hotline is the result of legislation passed in 2013 that aimed to expand the state's crisis response system by establishing a hotline, walk-in crisis stabilization facilities and a statewide awareness campaign. The Colorado Crisis and Support Line provides Coloradans with access to mental health professionals 24/7 who can assess and plan for their safety, provide solutions and support, and make referrals to resources. Coloradans seeking help can call 844-493-TALK (8255).

County offering free health screenings

The Montezuma County Public Health Department is offering free cholesterol screenings for residents of Montezuma and Dolores counties through their Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions program. Screening consists of a finger-stick blood sample, blood pressure reading, height and weight reading and guidelines for good cardiovascular health. Results are immediately available. Twelve-hour fasting is suggested.

For an appointment, call 565-3056, ext 248.
