La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith is working to determine the cause of death of a 79-year-old Arizona man whose body was found Saturday north of Lemon Reservoir.

The cause and manner of death was unknown Monday morning in advance of an autopsy scheduled for that afternoon.

Smith was able to identify the man based on a driver’s license but is not releasing a name until his family has been notified.

A man on horseback discovered the deceased’s camp about a mile from the Transfer Park campground and returned Saturday to discover the body. The deceased was found outside his camp and the body was in a partial state of decomposition.

Smith said based on initial observations, it appears the man died about a month ago. There were not any clear indicators of how he died.
