Board votes down grant application

The town board decided not to apply for a grant for infrastructure business on Aug. 27 after asking for more information.

Town Economic Development coordinator Chelsea Jones prepared the Rural Economic Development Initiative grant application.

If awarded the grant, Mancos would have had one year to build infrastructure in industrial buildings or lots with utility lines that could be sold or leased to businesses. The state would reimburse 25 percent of the cost, but the town would have likely needed to take out loans to cover costs of $680,000 to $450,000.

Trustees James Maestas, Michele Black and Will Stone voted against pursuing the grant, and Queenie Barz and Todd Kearns voted for it.
