Sporting their school’s trademark white and blue uniforms, several Mancos track athletes performed well at the Pine River Invitational in Bayfield on April 15.
Leading the way for the Mancos boys was Jake McKie, who finished second in the 3200-meter run (10:56.95) and sixth in the 1600-meter run (5:01.41).
Teslin Stecher placed seventh in the 3200-meter run (11:58.46), while Griff Huver placed eighth in the triple jump (38 feet, ¼ inches). Anthony Medina placed ninth in the long jump (18 feet, 7¾ inches).
Caden Showalter led the Bluejays in the throwing events, placing sixth in the shot put (40 feet, 7 ½ inches) and 10th in the discus (111 feet, 7 inches).
As a team, the Mancos boys finished 11th out of 19 total teams. The Bayfield High School boys team finished first.
The Bluejay girls were led by Emma Most, who finished second in the 3200-meter run (13:49.80).
Brittney Peacock placed seventh in the 3200-meter run (14:37.04), Ashley Cole placed 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:08.93), and Jessalyn Bay-Voit, placed 10th in the 800-meter run (2:48.41).
As a team, Mancos placed 13th out of 19 teams. The Bayfield High School girls team finished first overall.
Next up for the Mancos track teams will be the Ron Keller Invitational, April 18 in Durango. The Bluejays will then compete at the B&B Invitational in Aztec, April 21-22.
