Bluejays suffer disappointing loss to Telluride

Second-half collapse dooms Mancos in 62-56 league loss

Playing on the road against Telluride High School on Jan. 26, the Mancos High School boys basketball team lost its first San Juan Basin League contest of the season by a score of 62-56.

The Bluejays’ loss was ultimately a product of a horrific second half during which they were outscored 47-31. Telluride exploded offensively during a decisive third quarter that saw it outscore Mancos 31-20.

The Bluejays were led offensively by junior Caden Showalter, who scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior Vassar Stephens added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, and sophomore Christian Cova scored 11 points for Mancos.

With their record now at 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the SJBL, the Bluejays will look for redemption when they hit the road to face Ridgway on Feb. 2.
