Bluejays find form at Aztec Invitational

Mancos track teams battle difficult weather, but produce solid results

Fighting against a strong wind and spurts of rain, the Mancos High School boys’ and girls’ track teams travelled to the Aztec Invitational, April 21-22, and produced solid results.

Leading the way for the boys’ team was Breccen Morelli, who finished 9th in the 800-meter run (2:13.55) 11th in the 400-meter dash (54.91). Jake McKie also enjoyed a solid day, placing 8th in the 3200-meter run (10:49.16).

The Bluejays 4x100-meter relay made up of Griff Huver, Anthony Medina, Peyton Suazo and Scottie Sword finished 7th overall in a season-best time of 47.91.

On the girls’ side, Mancos was led by Kristen Fogel, who placed 9th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 28 feet, 10 inches.

“Overall, (The Aztec Invitational) is always a great meet for us to go and get some great competition,” said Mancos head coach Brady Archer. “We have so many athletes that PR and get marks that put them in the top 18 in the state at this meet. It gives them the boost that they need to finish our season off on a strong note.”

Next up for both Mancos track teams will be the Bloomfield Invitational, which will take place in Bloomfield, New Mexico, on April 29.
