Competing in weather conditions that featured little to no wind and mostly sunny skies, several Mancos High School track athletes raced to Top 10 finishes at the High Altitude Challenge in Alamosa on May 2.
On the boys’ side, the Bluejays were led by Caden Galloway, who finished third in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and Caden Showalter, who placed fourth in the discus (127 feet, 8 inches) and sixth in the shot put (42 feet, 2½ inches).
Other Top 10 finishers in the field events included Casey Orange, who finished sixth in the discus (19 feet, ½ inch) and 10th in the shot put (38 feet, 4 ½ inches) and Griff Huver, who placed fifth in the long jump (19 feet ½ inch) and seventh in the triple jump (38 feet).
Anthony Medina finished seventh in the 200-meter dash (24.29) and 9th in the long jump (18 feet, 5 ¼ inches) and Breccen Morelli finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (54.09).
As a team, Mancos finished ninth overall. Bayfield High School finished first in the 22-team meet.
On the girls’ side, Mancos was led by Jessalyn Bay-Voit, who placed seventh in the 800-meter run (2:50.67). Kristen Fogel finished eighth in the shot put (29 feet, 7 inches) and Hakayla Snow finished ninth in the 1600-meter run (7:08.09).
As a team, the Lady Jays finished 18th out of 22 teams and Alamosa first overall.
Next up for the Mancos track teams will be the San Juan Basin League Championship, which will take place in Grand Junction, May 5-6.
