The Bureau of Land Management Southwest District announced Tuesday its plans to burn slash piles on public lands at several locations including at Summit Lake and in the Yellow Jacket area, 24 miles west of Cortez.
These burns are part of the effort to reduce hazardous fuels, provide fire defensible space adjacent to private property, and remove invasive species to restore forest health.
The burns will take place throughout the winter.
