The Journal

The Bureau of Land Management will offer Christmas tree permits in the greater Dolores area from Nov. 25 through Dec. 24. Permits may be purchased for $8 per tree from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the BLM Tres Rios Field Office, 29211 Colorado Highway 184, Dolores. The BLM accepts cash, credit card or check.

BLM permits are valid for piñon pine trees. Permit holders are required to keep the permit on them at all times while cutting and transporting the tree. Maps and additional information regarding cutting areas will be provided upon purchase of a Christmas tree permit.

The BLM recommends bringing a handsaw, eye protection, rope or twine, extra food, water and blankets when cutting a tree. Tire chains, a shovel and emergency supplies are also recommended. Permits holders are encouraged to watch weather conditions and let someone know the cutting location and expected return time of the individual or group.

The Dolores Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and Dolores Outfitters, both on Railroad Avenue in downtown Dolores, have announced they also are selling permits.
