Bears wrap up regular season

Numbers-wise, the Dolores High School girls and boys track teams are fairly small. Such lack of quantity has not resulted in a lack of quality however, as both teams continue to perform at a high level.

At the Terry Alley Invitational on May 3, several Bears athletes cracked the top 10.

Among them was senior Brianna Schwartz, who, adding another victory to a season full of them, finished first overall in the 100-meter hurdles (17.21). Larissa Umberger finished third in the 100 hurdles (17.76) and placed seventh in the long jump (13 feet, 11½ inches).

Leading the Bears distance runners was Regan Umberger, who finished seventh in the 1600 (6:34.44). Jessica Schliesser paced Dolores in the throwing events, finishing third in the discus (88 feet, 6 inches) and sixth in the shot put (25 feet, 4 inches).

Taylor Elder finished third in the long jump (15 feet, 1 ½ inch), while Rachel Sparks, who finished 10th in the discus (70 feet, 8 inches).

For the boys, Ethen Upton finished third in the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches), and Guy Wallace finished eighth overall in the 100 (12.36). The boys' 4x100-meter relay, placed second (46.18); the boys' 4x200-meter relay, third (1:36.01); and the girls' 4x200-meter relay, second (1:51.53).

Next, the Bears will go to Grand Junction, where they will compete in the San Juan League championship, May 9-10.
