Bears track teams compete in Aztec B&B Invitational

Schwartz, Elder, crack top-five at B&B Invitational

Approaching the conclusion of their regular seasons, the Dolores High School boys and girls track teams have accumulated a spate of top-10 finishes, many of which came at the Aztec B&B Invitational, April 25-26.

Several Lady Bears crack top 10

Leading the way for the girls team, Brianna Schwartz was impressive as always, placing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.65) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.78).

Also performing impressively for the girls team was Taylor Elder, who placed third in the triple jump (31 feet, 1¼ inches) and sixth in the long jump (14 feet, 1¼ inch).

Leading the Bears in the throwing events, Jessica Schliesser finished eighth in the discus (84 feet, 3 inches) and ninth in the shot put (25 feet, 11½ inches).

Other top-10 finishers for the girls team included Larissa Umberger, who finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (18.17), eighth in the 300 hurdles (51.11) and ninth in the long jump (14 feet, 1¼ inches), Kelly Charles, who finished fifth in the 300 hurdles (55.28) and Olivia Wright, who finished fifth in the 400 (51.11).

Several girls team relays also performed well, including the 4x200 relay, which finished third overall.

Huff leads Dolores boys

Although the boys team did not enjoy as many top finishes as their female counterparts, the group did enjoy some solid individual performances.

Setting the pace was Rylan Huff, who finished 20th overall in the 100-meter dash (12.41).

Other top finishers for the boys team included Jackson Vermule, who placed 24th in the triple jump (31 feet, 9 inches), Damien Marquez, who finished 40th in the 100 (13.15) and 49th in the 200 (27.68), and Tristan Holgate, who finished 33rd in the 100 (12.96) and 45th in the 200.

The Bears' 4x200-meter relay team also performed well, finishing sixth overall.

Next up for the Dolores track teams will be the Terry Alley Invitational, which will take place in Pagosa Springs on May 3.
