Bears football team wins by forfeit

Dolores football team 2-1 on season after scheduling error

After a scheduling error by Monument Valley High School, Dolores High School's latest football game was canceled.

According to Dolores head coach Chris Trusler, the Sept. 12 game was called off after Monument Valley inadvertently scheduled two games on the same day.

Upon realizing its error, Monument Valley decided to forfeit the Dolores game and play against Diamond Ranch Academy. Monument Valley lost to Diamond Ranch 47-6 on Sept. 12.

Concerned that two consecutive weeks off could adversely affect the Bears, Trusler had his team take part in an inter-squad scrimmage Sept. 12.

"It went well," said Trusler. "It really gave some of our younger guys an opportunity to get some reps in."

Next up for the Bears will be a home matchup against Salida, which boasts a 3-0 record on the season. The game will take place at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19.

"(Salida) looks really good on film," said Trusler. "They run power football offense. We've shifted a couple things around to put our kids in the best position to succeed."
