Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village will open for spring break, March 14 to 25. The facility will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and is at 125 N. Main Ave.
The museum and village features 15 structures with thousands of artifacts related to San Juan County’s past, including Navajo rugs to collections of early oil and gas and farming and ranching equipment.
Learn about local legends and unique history by visiting exhibits like the 1880 Hamblet Cabin, which was made notorious by the Christmas Eve shooting that is said to have helped to spark the Stockton-Eskridge Gang. Also, see the Diebold safe from Telluride that is alleged to be Butch Cassidy’s first bank robbery in June 1889 when he was still known as Robert Leroy Parker.
Visitors may also ring the bell outside the one-room schoolhouse exhibit and write on vintage slates, see the ongoing restoration work on a replica D&RG caboose and see midcentury clothing and hats in the main building, Aztec’s 1940s City Hall.
A free stamping craft activity will be available for kids during spring break week.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for children 5 years old and younger. Annual memberships are also available.
