AZTEC – Multiple independent sources have confirmed to the Tri-City Record that Aztec High School head football coach Nic Williams has been placed on paid, administrative leave pending further investigation into alleged rules violations.

Williams, who was hired last year and was set to make his coaching debut for the Tigers on Friday when they open the season at Fred Cook Memorial Stadium against Rio Grande High School, confirmed his status via text message on Tuesday afternoon.

Aztec High School athletic director David Sweet could neither confirm nor deny Williams’ status for this weekend’s game, but did confirm that an active investigation was taking place.

“There is an investigation underway and the results of that investigation have not been finalized or completed yet,” Sweet said. “Because this an ongoing investigation, there have been no terminations to this point, and I cannot say who will be on the sidelines on Friday night.”

Details as to what led to the investigation also have not been confirmed by the Tri-City Record, though Sweet did state that the investigation revolved around several coaches.

“We have had couple of coaches who are being investigated for some actions which may or may not have been taken,” Sweet said.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
