Those familiar with Montezuma-Cortez High School sports know that senior Briston Walker is a great athlete. On the soccer field, he excels as a defender, on the basketball court, he dominates down low, and as a sprinter on the track, he is incredibly fast.

What fans may not realize is that Walker is also a standout student and involved member of the community.

In the classroom, Walker has maintained a 3.5 GPA while excelling in a wide array of classes at M-CHS.

At the school, Walker participates in choir, where his voice often leaves audience members in awe.

In addition to his academic achievements and singing success, Walker, a long-time Boy Scout, was awarded his Eagle Scout last July.

“It was a good accomplishment,” said Walker. “It looks really good for college.”

Already admitted to Weber State University, Walker plans to enroll in the ROTC before eventually enlisting in the Navy.

“Doing the Eagle Scout taught me about dedication and love for your country,” explained Walker. “I want to serve.”

Speaking of the role that high school athletics has had in his success, Walker spoke of the discipline and dedication he has developed while participating in sports.

“(Sports) set priorities for me,” said Walker. “School comes first, but sports help me because I get my school stuff done so that I am able to play my sports.”
