AstroFriday presentation ‘The Mars Show’ will be held Nov. 8

One day, Mars’ moon Phobos could be circling Earth’s neighbor in the form of a Saturn-like ring. Scientists say Phobos could be torn apart by Mars and form a dust cloud that will become a ring around Mars.

The San Juan College Planetarium’s upcoming AstroFriday presentation, “The Mars Show,” promises to be an informative and engaging experience for all attendees, according to a press release from the college.

The one-hour live presentation Friday will take visitors on a virtual tour of the red planet using the college’s star projector and other computer technology. From viewing Mars as a globe to exploring the surface and observing the night sky from its perspective, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Martian landscape and nearby celestial objects such as Mars’ moons, Phobos and Deimos.

San Juan College offers the event free of charge, no reservations are required, and seating capacity for 60 people will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The planetariums doors will close promptly at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

After the presentations at 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, there will be a stargazing session with telescopes in the Connie Gotsch Theatre courtyard, featuring the First Quarter Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and other celestial wonders.
