The Artisans of Mancos, an artist’s cooperative gallery, will welcome two new artists, Ralph K. Stanly and John Reimers, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 101 Grand Ave.
The reception is part of the Mancos Open Studio Tours and will feature art tours, demonstrations, studio visits, food and fun.
Ralph K. Stanly began creating small drawings on random pieces of paper. Anything he picked up was his canvas. Stanly found that if he just put pen to paper, the drawing would seem to start drawing itself. His work continued to grow and develop into a complex universe.
John Reimers grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from U.C. Berkeley. He moved to Cortez in 2007, following a long career as a general contractor and site supervisor. Reimers developed an interest in hard-edge painting and geometric abstraction, and began to explore these styles in wood. His current compositions are assembled from individual pieces of medium-density fiberboard that are cut to size, textured with a router and then painted with acrylic.
