Armed suspect dead in officer-involved shooting in Farmington

Public advised to avoid scene on West Murray Drive

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Police Department and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a shooting Monday on West Murray Drive, which resulted in the death of the armed subject.

The police department and the Sheriff’s Office posted updates to their Facebook pages to alert travelers and encourage them to avoid the area.

“There has been a multi-agency officer-involved shooting,” read the post from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page. “West Murray between West Main and Hwy 371 remains closed for investigation. Please seek alternate routes.”

The Farmington Police Department updated its Facebook page at 12:49 p.m. to say there was a shooting at the scene. A spokeswoman for the police department said the suspect is dead.
