Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office investigating woman’s death

Victim was found dead early Wednesday west of Pagosa Springs

The Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a woman’s death as a possible homicide.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a deceased woman about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the Vista subdivision, on the west side of Pagosa Springs just outside town limits, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Undersheriff Derek Woodman declined to say who called law enforcement or identify the woman. He said no arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.

“The Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office has no reason to believe that the public is in any danger,” the agency wrote in the release.

Woodman told The Pagosa Springs Sun a “sharp object” is suspected to have been used in the woman’s death.

“We have one male party that we have not been able to contact and is of high interest,” he told the Sun.

Anyone with information that could aid the investigation is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 264-8430.
