Annie Scott Ahkeah

Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Annie Scott Ahkeah will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery. Pastor Herman Harrison will be officiating.

A visitation has been scheduled Monday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel.

Annie was born on Oct. 7, 1943, in Towaoc, Colo., the daughter of Frank and Mary (Jim) Scott. She passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M., at the age of 70.

On Oct. 27, 1961, in Rico, Colo., Annie married Wallace Ahkeah. She belonged to the Penecostal Church, and throughout her life worked for the Cortez Laundry, Silver & Gold, and Mesa Verde Pottery. Annie was also a self-employed silversmith and potter. She loved to collect gold jewelry, go to yard sales and art shows.

Surviving Annie are her husband of 52 years, Wallace Ahkeah of Cortez; her children, Verna Summa and husband, Ronnie Summa, Sr. of Towaoc; Vanessa Lopez of Cortez; five grandchildren, Chelsea High Elk and husband, Angel Holguin of Las Cruces, N.M., Kelsea Jacket of Towaoc, Wallace Summa of Towaoc, Cherish Lopez and Starlette Peabody both of Cortez; five great-grandchildren, Bright MorningStar, Paradize BlueFlower, Gabriel Angel, Heavenly Angel and Gabriella Post; three sisters, Bessie S. Martin of Cortez, Sarah S. Hayes and husband, Rick Hayes Sr. of Towaoc, Daisy Lee and husband Jack Lee, Jr. of Mancos. Preceding Annie in death are her parents, Frank and Mary (Jim) Scott; her brothers, Harvey Bekis, Joe Scott, Raymond Scott and Paul Scott; and her sister, Lena Dawes.
