A letter-writer on June 29 lamented the “name-calling” that has labeled people who deny the results of the 2020 election as “election deniers.” So despite the fact that it seems like a pretty accurate general descriptor, I’d like to offer some alternatives: “con artists”; “grifters”; “liars”; “fascists”; “the deceptionists”; “reality deniers”; “those detached from reality”; “sheep”; “the uninformed”; “the misinformed”; “traitors”; “seditionists”; or maybe the “the delusionals.”
Or, perhaps these folks would like to adopt monikers that align them with some of the giants of modern political thinking who deny the election results: “My Pillow-ites”; “Boebert-ites”; “Green-ites” (as in Marjorie Taylor); “Gosar-ites” (as in Paul of Arizona); “Giuliani-ites” (as in Rudy Giuliani of Four Seasons Total Landscaping fame); Powell-ites (as in Sidney Powell of “I’m going to release the Kraken” fame); “Tucker-ites” (as in Tucker “my network says I’m not to be believed, and a federal judge agreed” Carlson); or more locally, (and I use the term “local” very loosely) Shaw-ites (as in Shelli Shaw, our own election denying, carpetbagging Trumpette, who just moved here from Texas and is running for the state House).
It seems that most election deniers fall into one or more of these categories. So “election denier” is, in fact, an easy catch-all, pragmatic and very generous description of these folks. It would be incredibly time-consuming to determine exactly which category(-ies) any one individual falls into.
